Things to Do in Orlando This Weekend: Sept. 11–13, 2026

Free Latin jazz, a giant fandom festival in Kissimmee, fall fun in Avalon Park, food trucks in Sanford, family crafts at Leu Gardens, farmers markets and more — here are some of the best things happening around Greater Orlando this weekend.

There is a lot happening around Central Florida this weekend, and you don’t need a theme-park ticket to have a good time.

Friday through Sunday, September 11–13, brings an unusually varied mix of events: a free Latin Jazz & Art Festival, cosplay and comics at Fandom Kissimmee, the beginning of fall activities in east Orlando, more than 40 food trucks in downtown Sanford and several free markets and community events.

Friday also marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and Orlando will hold its annual candlelight ceremony honoring the first responders who died that day. (City of Orlando)

Friday, Sept. 11: Orlando Remembers 9/11 at Fire Station 1

Before getting into the weekend entertainment, Friday deserves a moment of remembrance.

The Orlando Fire Department will hold its annual September 11 Candlelight Remembrance Ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday at Orlando Fire Station 1 downtown.

This year’s ceremony marks the 25th anniversary of the attacks.

Firefighters will light 404 candles honoring first responders who died, including 343 firefighters, 60 law-enforcement officers and FDNY Chaplain Father Mychal Judge. Twenty-five fire helmets will also be placed to represent the 25 years since the attack. (City of Orlando)

Friday: Avalon Park Starts Fall Early With a Free Community Market

If you’re ready to start thinking about pumpkins even though Central Florida temperatures haven’t necessarily received the memo that fall is approaching, Avalon Park has you covered.

The Shine Bright Fall Market takes over Founder’s Square from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday.

The free event celebrates both the beginning of fall and neurodiversity, with pumpkin painting, live music and a DJ, a photo booth, local vendors, food and drinks and pet-friendly activities. (Avalon Park Orlando)

This looks like one of the better choices for families Friday evening because there’s no admission fee and you can decide how much—or how little—you want to spend once you’re there.

Friday: Food Trucks and Live Music in Casselberry

Lake Concord Park is going to be busy all weekend.

It starts Friday evening with Casselberry Food Trucks, running from 6 to 9 p.m.

If you live in Winter Park, Maitland, Altamonte Springs or northeast Orlando, this is an easy Friday night option without driving across the entire metro area.

And if you like the park, come back Saturday.

Something considerably bigger is happening there.

Friday: Art After Dark in Lake Nona

For a relaxed date-night option, Art After Dark continues Friday evening at Lake Nona Town Center.

The recurring event brings local artists, makers and vendors into the Town Center, giving visitors a place to browse art, grab dinner and walk around outside in the evening. Lake Nona describes Art After Dark as a weekly Friday gathering centered on local vendors, makers and artists. (Lake Nona)

There is no need to plan an entire evening around it.

Go for dinner.

Walk through the market.

All Weekend: Boxi Park Holds Red, White & Remembrance Weekend

Boxi Park is holding Red, White & Remembrance Weekend from September 10–13.

Friday features Blonde Ambition, while Saturday’s entertainment includes RAD, Theo Moon and DJ Rick GZ. Sunday becomes the park’s regular Family Fun Day. (Boxi Park Lake Nona)

The weekend is centered on remembrance of September 11 and recognition of first responders and service members, followed by family activities and live entertainment through Sunday.

Saturday, Sept. 12: Fandom Kissimmee Is One of the Best Free Events of the Weekend

If anyone in your family likes comics, anime, gaming, cosplay or science fiction, put this one near the top of the list.

The City of Kissimmee is holding Fandom Kissimmee at Kissimmee Lakefront Park on Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m.

And admission is free.

The open-air festival includes comic books, anime, collectibles, gaming, original artwork, fandom trivia, cosplay competitions, immersive photo opportunities, entertainment, merchandise and food vendors. (Kissimmee)

Costumes are encouraged, so this is also an excuse to get some additional use from a cosplay outfit before Halloween.

Kissimmee Lakefront Park makes a good venue because you can also walk along the waterfront and spend some time in downtown Kissimmee before or after the festival.

Saturday Evening: Free Latin Jazz With Néstor Torres in Casselberry

This may be our top free music event of the weekend.

Casselberry’s Latin Jazz and Art Festival takes over Lake Concord Park Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m., with Grammy-winning Puerto Rican flutist Néstor Torres and Emmy-nominated Puerto Rican cuatro player and singer Fabiola Méndez among the headliners. (Casselberry)

The evening begins with Kalindá performing traditional Bomba, followed by Dimas Sánchez and the Afro Latin Jazz Project. Torres, Méndez and accompanying musicians take the stage beginning around 7:30 p.m. (Casselberry)

There is more happening than music.

Latin visual artists will have paintings, sculpture and mixed-media work displayed at City Hall, the Art House, Art Center and Sculpture House from 5 to 8 p.m.

Food and product vendors will also be on site.

Saturday: Noche Latina Comes to Avalon Park

East Orlando gets another Latin-themed event Saturday evening.

Noche Latina at the Marketplace runs from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday in Avalon Park. (Avalon Park Orlando)

That makes Avalon particularly useful this weekend because residents can choose the Friday fall market and return Saturday evening for Noche Latina.

If you’re trying to stay closer to Waterford Lakes, Avalon Park or east Orlando rather than driving toward downtown, it’s worth keeping on the list.

Saturday Morning: Get Creative at Leu Gardens

Families with younger children have another option much closer to central Orlando.

Harry P. Leu Gardens is holding Craft Day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visitors of all ages can participate in hands-on crafts inspired by nature and the beginning of fall.

The activities are included with normal garden admission, so there is no additional Craft Day fee once you’ve entered the gardens. (Leu Gardens)

Saturday: Classic Cars Cruise Through Kissimmee

If cosplay isn’t your thing, Kissimmee has another free Saturday tradition.

Old Town holds its Saturday Night Classic Car Show & Cruise every week.

The show begins at 1 p.m. and features classic cars, hot rods and antiques from 1985 and earlier. The cars cruise Old Town’s brick streets at 8:30 p.m. (Old Town)

Watching the show and cruise is free.

Old Town says the tradition has been running for nearly 35 years and can draw up to 250 vehicles. (Old Town)

Saturday Morning: Winter Garden Is Still One of the Best Nearly Free Outings

Sometimes you don’t need a special festival.

The Winter Garden Farmers Market runs Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with more than 100 vendors selling produce, baked goods, prepared foods, flowers and artisan products. (Downtown Winter Garden)

Admission is free.

This weekend downtown Winter Garden also has several free museum and historical exhibits, including the city’s 25th Anniversary 9/11 Tribute Exhibit and exhibits at the Winter Garden Heritage Museum and Central Florida Railroad Museum. (Downtown Winter Garden)

Walk Plant Street.

Grab coffee or lunch.

Walk or bike part of the West Orange Trail.

That’s an inexpensive half-day without much planning.

Theater Fans: Orlando Out Fest Runs All Weekend

For something completely different, Orlando Fringe’s Orlando Out Fest runs September 10–13.

The curated festival celebrates LGBTQIA stories, artists and history through theater, film, music and other performances. (Orlando Fringe)

Events are centered around Orlando’s Ivanhoe Village and Mills 50 area, with individual performances and programs scheduled throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

This one is primarily ticketed rather than free, so check the daily schedule before heading out.

Sunday, Sept. 13: More Than 40 Food Trucks Take Over Downtown Sanford

Food may be the best reason to head north Sunday.

The Sanford Food Truck Fiesta returns from 1 to 6 p.m. downtown.

The city says the monthly event brings more than 40 food trucks and food tents to downtown Sanford, along with live music and artisan vendors. (Sanford Main)

Parking for the event is free.

And because the event sits within historic downtown Sanford, you can walk around the shops, restaurants and breweries or continue toward Lake Monroe afterward.

This is probably our pick for anyone whose ideal Sunday involves eating several things from several different trucks while pretending that sharing them means the calories don’t count.

Sunday Morning: Casselberry Launches a New Vintage Bazaar

If Saturday’s Latin Jazz Festival isn’t enough reason to visit Lake Concord Park, there’s something brand new happening there Sunday.

Casselberry is launching its first Casselberry Vintage Bazaar on September 13.

The city says more than 50 vendors are expected, with vintage merchandise, produce, product vendors and food trucks.

Sunday: The Orlando Farmers Market Returns to Lake Eola

If you want to stay downtown, the Orlando Farmers Market runs Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lake Eola Park.

The market includes food, baked goods, plants, crafts, gifts and other vendors, along with an outdoor dining area and entertainment. (City of Orlando)

Admission is free.

Combine it with a walk around Lake Eola and you have one of the easiest inexpensive Sunday outings in Orlando.

Hungry but Want Something More Relaxed? Magical Dining Is Still Going

This weekend also falls in the middle of Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining.

The 2026 event continues through September 30 with a record 180-plus participating restaurants offering three-course dinners for $40 or $60 per person, excluding tax and gratuity. (Visit Orlando)

Fifteen Michelin Guide-recognized restaurants are participating this year, along with 36 restaurants joining Magical Dining for the first time. (Visit Orlando)

It isn’t the cheapest thing on our weekend list.

But if you were already planning dinner out, this is a good time to try somewhere you might normally consider too expensive.

There is also a charitable component: part of each Magical Dining meal supports OCA and other local organizations serving people with autism and developmental disabilities and their families. (Visit Orlando)

Our Pick for a Mostly Free Orlando Weekend

If we were trying to get the most out of the weekend without spending much, we’d do it this way.

Friday: Shine Bright Fall Market in Avalon Park, or attend Orlando’s 9/11 Candlelight Remembrance Ceremony downtown.

Saturday morning: Winter Garden Farmers Market or Craft Day at Leu Gardens.

Saturday afternoon: Fandom Kissimmee.

Saturday evening: Latin Jazz & Art Festival in Casselberry.

Sunday morning: Orlando Farmers Market or Casselberry’s new Vintage Bazaar.

Sunday afternoon: Sanford Food Truck Fiesta.

Most of the admission costs in that itinerary are zero.

The danger to your budget comes from the food trucks.

This Is Why Exploring Orlando Locally Pays Off

This is exactly the kind of weekend that makes living in Greater Orlando interesting.

Within about an hour of downtown you can see Grammy-winning Latin jazz, wander through a comic and cosplay festival, paint pumpkins, explore local art, look at hundreds of classic cars, browse farmers markets and choose from dozens of food trucks.

Most of it is free.

None of it requires entering a theme park.

That’s something we’re going to continue emphasizing at Lifehappens2us.

The major attractions are an important part of Orlando, but they’re not the entirety of Orlando.

Sometimes the more interesting weekend is happening in a park in Casselberry.

Or along the lakefront in Kissimmee.

Or on Plant Street in Winter Garden.

Or around Sanford Avenue.

You just have to know it’s there.
